About

A small independent magazine for people who make things — written slowly, edited sharply.

The story so far

Tidewater Gazette began in 2019 as a two-page studio newsletter passed around one harbor town. Readers kept it, quoted it and asked for more — so we kept writing.

Today we publish long-form guides, studio notes and honest opinion across six topics: lifestyle, technology, finance, culture, design and business. Every piece is written by a working practitioner, edited by a human, and argued over at a real table before it ships.

We believe creative work deserves better than hot takes. Our promise is simple: useful ideas, original images and copy that respects your time.

What we cover

  • Guides that teach. Step-by-step pieces on money, process and craft — written from experience, not theory.
  • Notes on studio life. Rituals, spaces and habits that keep creative work sustainable.
  • Opinion with receipts. Strong views on design and business, argued honestly and open to reply.
  • People worth following. Makers, editors and founders doing quietly excellent work.

How an issue comes together

  1. Pitch

Writers bring one sharp idea and three reasons it matters to working creatives.

  2. Draft

First drafts are written fast, with real examples and original photography notes.

  3. Edit

Two passes: one for structure, one for sentences. Nothing ships with filler.

  4. Publish

Stories go out weekly, and the best return each season in the editor's picks.
